Siemens Mobility has launched a new £6 million centre at its Kings Heath Depot in Northampton. The centre will help the company carry out important upgrades and modifications to passenger trains across the UK. The facility was officially opened by Lucy Rigby KC MP, Member of Parliament for Northampton North, showing Siemens’ commitment to local jobs and innovation in the rail sector.
The new centre is built to handle various improvements, including better seating, toilets, luggage storage, and charging ports. Siemens has also set up a mobile team that can travel across the country to perform upgrades directly on trains. One of the first projects undertaken will focus on East Midland Railway’s Class 360 trains, improving passenger comfort and overall travel experience.
Lucy Rigby KC MP said it was an honor to open Siemens Mobility’s new Multi-Functional Centre and meet the skilled team improving passenger travel. She praised the company’s investment in creating local jobs, supporting economic growth, and developing skills in Northampton.
Sambit Banerjee, Joint CEO and Managing Director for Rolling Stock and Customer Services, said the new centre shows Siemens Mobility’s ongoing commitment to the UK. He highlighted that the £6 million facility will increase the company’s ability to upgrade passenger trains and add 30 new jobs, helping to improve rail travel across the country.
The centre also helps the environment, with a 17% increase in local biodiversity, a new wildflower garden, and plans to plant more trees soon.
