Microsoft has released a significant update for its Edge browser, featuring a new Copilot Mode that turns Edge into an AI-enabled browsing experience. The launch comes soon after OpenAI unveiled its ChatGPT Atlas browser, inviting direct comparisons between the two AI-driven products.

According to Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman, the upgraded Copilot Mode is built to act as “a dynamic, intelligent companion” that helps users while they browse. With permission, Copilot can analyse open tabs, summarise or compare web content, and even perform actions such as booking hotels, filling forms, or managing tasks in real time.

Microsoft first launched Copilot Mode in July with limited features like voice navigation and AI-based search. The latest version introduces two new tools, “Actions” and “Journeys.” Actions enable Copilot to carry out online tasks directly, like filling out forms or booking reservations, while Journeys helps users manage their browsing context and related pages across several tabs.
