Background

Meta has expanded its AI-generated short video feed “Vibes” to Europe, allowing users across the region to create, share, and watch AI-made videos directly within the Meta AI app. The feature, similar to TikTok or Instagram Reels, stands out because every video in the feed is AI-generated.

The expansion follows Vibes’ initial launch in the United States six weeks ago, shortly before OpenAI introduced Sora, a similar AI video creation and sharing platform.

According to Meta, Vibes offers a “social and collaborative creation experience” where users can generate videos from text prompts, remix others’ creations, or add new visuals and music. Users can also cross-post their AI videos to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels. Over time, the Vibes feed will become more personalized to individual user preferences.

Mark‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, introduced Vibes to the public for the first time in September. He referred to it in a different manner in which people could generate and disseminate AI-powered narratives. Nevertheless, the response to the feature has been a mixture of different opinions.

Despite the criticism, Meta is promoting Vibes as part of its broader AI innovation strategy. The company reported that AI media generation in the Meta AI app has grown more than tenfold since launch.

The move contrasts with platforms like YouTube, which are tightening rules on AI-generated content to maintain authenticity. Still, Meta says Vibes aims to “encourage creativity and collaboration through AI.”
