Ford Motor Company has opened its new 2.1-million-square-foot global headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, marking a major step in the automaker’s ongoing campus transformation. The facility, informally called “The Hub,” is designed to strengthen collaboration, enhance productivity and provide a modern working environment for thousands of employees returning to on-site office schedules.

The new headquarters replaces the company’s iconic “Glass House,” located roughly three miles away, which has served as Ford’s home base since the 1950s. The updated facility, Ford’s sixth headquarters since 1903, will eventually house up to 4,000 employees across business operations, product development and advanced design functions. Construction across the broader campus is expected to continue through 2027.

Unlike the traditional office layouts of the past, Ford’s new building focuses on flexible workplaces rather than dedicated desks. Executives say the intention is to encourage more mobility, creativity and interaction among teams. Only top leaders will have private offices, while other employees can choose from various work “neighborhoods” based on their daily needs.

A major attraction inside the new headquarters is the expansive 160,000-square-foot dining hall, featuring eight culinary concepts, globally inspired menus and take-home meal options. From fresh, made-on-site meals to a juice bar and affordable $6 rotisserie chickens, Ford wants the new campus to feel welcoming and encourage employees to spend time together, including during lunch breaks.

The building is also designed to bring in plenty of natural light and connect people with outdoor areas. It features six courtyards, a spacious central showroom, easy-to-walk pathways and wide staircases that promote movement and make it easier for employees to interact.

Inside the design studios, teams will use advanced clay milling machines, a 64-foot digital review screen and a modern design dome to develop new products. While the outside of the building displays Ford’s iconic blue oval, the interior keeps branding minimal, using small design patterns inspired by the company’s patents.

The new headquarters is a central component of Ford’s larger $1 billion effort to reshape its Dearborn campus and reflects the company’s commitment to creating a workplace that supports innovation and the goals of the Ford+ transformation plan.
