Background

Recruiters may soon rely heavily on artificial intelligence for initial job screenings. Alex, a startup building an AI recruiting platform, said its system can handle video and phone interviews autonomously, helping companies identify qualified candidates faster.

Aaron Wang, co-founder of Alex, said the AI recruiter conducts thousands of interviews daily and supports hiring for some of the world’s largest companies, including Fortune 100 firms, nationwide restaurant chains, financial institutions, and Big 4 accounting firms. Wang added that the technology allows recruiters to spend more time building relationships with pre-qualified candidates.

The startup announced a $17 million Series A funding round led by Peak XV Partners, with participation from Y Combinator, Uncorrelated Ventures, and CHROs from Fortune 500 companies. This follows a $3 million seed round led by 1984 Ventures last year.

Alex’s long-term goal is to interview millions of job applicants to create professional profile data that is richer than LinkedIn profiles. “A 10-minute chat gives us much more insight than a LinkedIn profile,” Wang said.

The AI recruiting space is competitive, with startups like HeyMilo, ConverzAI, and Ribbon also offering automated interview solutions. Still, investors see AI interviewers as a growing trend that many companies will probably use.

With its new funding, Alex plans to expand its AI platform and help more recruiters save time while making hiring more efficient.
